The members and friends of Chickerell Methodist Church extend a very warm welcome to you.

If you are new to the area, I’m sure you will find it a friendly community. The same can be said if you are new to our Church or Chapel  - as most people refer to the building, the church, strictly speaking, being the people.

We enjoy meeting together and are always seeking to appreciate, love and support anyone who wishes to join us. All are welcome to our Sunday morning services at 10.30am, as well as our other activities.

For those wanting an evening service, Weymouth Bay Methodist in Melcombe Ave, Weymouth has Sunday evening services at 6.30pm.

We use Hymns and Psalms and Mission Praise (up to No. 798)

Information for visiting preachers: we have a copy of Singing the Faith and later Mission Praises so, as we have a CCLI licence, we can make copies of the words for the congregation but we do need a few days' notice to get them done.

Below is a version of a welcome notice that probably started in an American Catholic church, although it is not certain where, as it has had many re-writes and additions. This version is an British version and has been tweaked further by Rosemary, our organist to be relevant to the time and place.

A Right Good Christian Welcome to All!

"We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, widowed, gay, confused, extremely rich, comfortably off, or very poor.

We extend a special welcome to crying babies, excited toddlers, sprightly or not so sprightly centenarians and everyone in between. Buggies and walking aids accommodated.

We welcome foreigners from outside Dorset as well as locals!

We welcome you whether you can sing like Pavarotti or just growl quietly to yourself. You're welcome here if you're 'just browsing,' just woken up or just got out of prison.

We don't care if you're more Christian than the Archbishop of Canterbury or haven't been in a church since that Christmas all those years ago. We will be honoured if you normally worship a different denomination but there isn’t one of those churches here, so you are giving us a try.

We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but don't feel grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome keep fit mums, football dads, starving artists, tree huggers, latte sippers, vegetarians and junk food eaters.

We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you're having problems, are down in the dumps or don't like 'organised religion.'

We welcome those who are inked, pierced, both or neither.

We welcome those who don’t or can’t put anything into the offering box. Our chapel has been managing without any contribution from you, so please don’t feel guilty.

We welcome those who can read and ask that they will tell those who can’t read that they are welcome, too and we can help them to change situation if they want.

We offer a welcome to those on holiday and those who work too hard, don't work, can't spell, or are here because granny is visiting and wanted to go to church.

We offer a special welcome to those who would like a prayer right now. Also welcome are those who had religion shoved down their throat as children, got lost in the country roads and wound up here by mistake.

We are the ‘Body of Christ on earth’ and Jesus would do no less than this. We welcome you because Jesus does. Join with us to meet him here.

We welcome tourists, seekers, doubters and you!”
